BOSTON – Gov. Deval L. Patrick announced last week that cities and towns throughout the state will receive $155 million in funding to rebuild and repair local roads and bridges in fiscal 2011.
Each municipality in the state will receive an increase in Chapter 90 funding – money used to reimburse cities and towns – compared with this year’s level. The funding for all municipalities represents a $5 million increase over fiscal 2010.
“This record level of investment in repairing town and city roads and bridges represents an historic and timely boost for communities across the commonwealth,” said Patrick, noting that the capital investment will create construction jobs, improve transportation and public safety, and encourage economic development.
Chapter 90 funds are allocated as part of the three-year Transportation Bond Bills approved by the Legislature in 2008. The funds may be used for road, bridge and multiuse path projects and related needs.
