
NEWPORT – Just in time for summer, the winners of the 36th annual Great Chowder Cook-Off are in.
Chefs from Rhode Island and as far away as Ireland participated in this year’s festivities on Sat., June 10 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, competing for prestigious titles like “Best Clam,” Best Seafood,” and “Best Red” chowder, not to mention bragging rights and thousands in prize money, Newport Waterfront Events announced in a press release on Tuesday.

The event is the first and longest-running cook-off of its kind in the country, and features competing chefs serving samples of their chowder to festival attendees, who also serve as judges.

Formerly hosted by the Newport Yachting Center, the Great Chowder Cook-Off is now presented by Waterfront Events LLC known as Newport Waterfront Events, an event production company that took over the Yachting Center’s event division after it was sold to R.I.-based development company Peregrine Group in 2014.
