GTECH extends Georgia lottery contract

PROVIDENCE – GTECH Corp. signed a contract extension with the Georgia Lottery Corp. to continue providing lottery services through 2018.
The five-year extension will bring GTECH $200 million in revenue, according to a news release.
The Georgia Lottery, which has contracted with GTECH since it began in 1993, has brought in more than $12 billion total for education in the state. In fiscal 2010, the lottery generated $3.65 billion in sales.
In addition to continuing to operate the lottery’s system and networks, GTECH will bring its new Renaissance Player Program to the state during the five-year extension period. The corporation will also replace some of the state’s lottery terminals.
“Given today’s economic climate and the need to continue developing new revenue initiatives, the timing of the extension makes good business sense to effectively maximize revenue for the Hope Scholarship and pre-kindergarten programs in Georgia,” said Georgia Lottery Corp. President and CEO Margaret DeFrancisco.
