PROVIDENCE – Lottery giant GTECH Corp. has inked a $20 million deal with the Maryland State Lottery Commission to supply, operate and support the system that will monitor as many as 15,000 video lottery terminals (VLTs) at up to five casinos.
GTECH, a subsidiary of Italy’s Lottomatica Group SpA, said the system is expected to be operational by the middle of this year. The five-and-a-half-year contract includes an option for a five-year extension.

The company plans to install its control system called Intelligen, along with its Advanced Business Intelligence Value-Added Module, and provide ongoing support. The contract was approved by the lottery commission, the Maryland Board of Public Works and the Maryland Department of Information Technology.
“The Maryland Lottery chose GTECH’s Intelligen solution because of its proven integrity, ease of management, and advanced reporting,” said Gina Smith, interim director of the Maryland State Lottery Agency. “These features, combined with the system’s support of open protocols, means Maryland will be able to adapt and grow its new program as advances in technology emerge. This flexibility will strengthen our program over the long term.”
