PROVIDENCE – Hampton hotels wants your vote, but not for best inn. The hotel chain, part of the Hilton brand, instead wants the public to pick an historic site in Rhode Island to receive money and volunteers for upkeep.
Hampton’s Save-A-Landmark program is expanding its reach into Rhode Island and four other states next year. In the Ocean State, Hampton has nominated three projects: the Beavertail Lighthouse in Jamestown, the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Museum in Newport and the Westerly Armory. The public can vote online until Nov. 30.
“Each year, Hampton and our employee volunteers donate countless hours and resources to help preserve and restore landmarks across the country,” said Judy Christa-Cathey, vice president, global marketing for Hampton. “We’re thrilled to bring the program to Rhode Island next year.”
Hampton says that since April 2000 hotel volunteers have preserved more than 50 landmarks across the country.
This year marks the end of the program with the expansion into the last five untouched states: Rhode Island, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho and Montana.
