Homefront Health Care closes immediately, 450 affected

CRANSTON – Homefront Healthcare has closed its doors, the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care announced Thursday.

RIPHC reached an agreement with a court-appointed special master receiver and Homefront Health Care to transition all patients and staff to Home Health and Nursing Placement, which is headquartered in Pawtucket, pending court approval.

“The loss of Homefront Health Care as a provider within our industry is the latest example of a series of unfortunate home care closures in which Gov. Gina M. Raimondo and the General Assembly have not remedied due to low Medicaid reimbursement rates to sustain operations and meet payroll for staff,” said Nicholas Oliver, executive director of RIPHC. “The partnership commends all involved parties for creating a solution that ensures continuity-of-care for patients and employment for all staff impacted. However, Governor Raimondo and the General Assembly should not expect that the end-result of Homefront’s final hours may be replicated when the next Medicaid home care provider is no longer able to financially sustain operations under current Medicaid reimbursement rates.

Homefront Health Care delivered services to more than 450 homebound Rhode Island residents.

“Action needs to be taken by our elected leaders to prevent other Medicaid home care providers from a similar fate,” said Oliver.
