PBN: What are the challenges of taking over a new hotel?
DE PERI: It’s hard work, but full of opportunities and rewarding experiences on all levels. The emotional connection between an opening team at a hotel is something you cannot describe. It creates a bond, a positive energy that carries over into the day-to-day culture of the hotel. The guests feel it, and it makes them want to come back.Angelo De Peri has been named general manager of the Renaissance Providence Hotel now under construction at the Masonic Temple in Providence. PBN: How will you differentiate yourself from the Westin?

DE PERI: The markets for each hotel in our community are relatively the same. However, personality, brand positioning and location will dictate to what level each hotel will tap into the various markets. The Renaissance will fill the niche of top-tier, luxury service on both a transient and group-room basis. We will position ourselves as a serene oasis, offering our guests the opportunity to relax and renew themselves.

PBN: How will you attract guests to the hotel?

DE PERI: The Renaissance project has created a buzz. The market in Providence today has had great successes in attracting business-transient and single-property group business.

PBN: What will the hotel do for the downtown Providence?
DE PERI: Our goal through this project is to add value to the city of Providence and the community at large. The additional development in hotel rooms will afford the CVB [Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau] the opportunity to tap into conventions that previously required room inventory that we could not accommodate.
