Housing Authority gets $239K from feds

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jack Reed’s office this month announced the East Providence Housing Authority will receive $239,000 in federal funding, which will help provide rental assistance vouchers for about 35 local veterans and their families.
Each voucher will be worth up to $7,000, Reed’s office said.
“This critical funding will help dozens of Rhode Island veterans and their families put a roof over their heads and access the services they need to get back on their feet,” Reed said in a statement. “This program allows local veterans affairs case managers to reach out to veterans most in need and help them with their housing and follow up with the treatment and care they deserve.”
In 2007, there were more than 200 Rhode Islander veterans who were homeless for some or all of the year, Reed’s office announced, quoting the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
