ISO New England gets new COO

HOLYOKE, Mass. – ISO New England Inc., operator of the region’s bulk electrical transmission system and wholesale electricity market, has named Vamsi Chadalavada to the post of senior vice president and chief operating officer. The promotion is effective immediately.
Chadalavada – previously ISO New England’s senior vice president of market and system solutions – replaces Stephen G. Whitley, who recently retired to accept a position as president and CEO of the New York ISO.
Before joining the regional power system in 2003, Chadalavada had worked for electronics and electrical engineering giant Siemens AG, most recently as vice president and general manager of the company’s Energy Management and Information Systems (EMIS) unit. He holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Iowa State University.
“Vamsi has been a key member of ISO New England’s senior management since he joined the company almost five years ago,” Gordon van Welie, ISO New England’s president and CEO, said in a statement today.
“His expertise in energy management and wholesale market systems, market design and project delivery has been well-tested over the past few years as the ISO worked to develop the region’s suite of wholesale electricity markets. On behalf of the board of directors, I congratulate Vamsi on his promotion to COO and wish him well in his new position.”
ISO New England Inc. is a regional transmission organization charged with operating the regional power system and wholesale electricity markets. Its board members are elected via a process that includes nominations by representatives of the ISO New England Board, the New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners and the New England Power Pool, as well as endorsements by the NEPOOL Participants Committee.
