MINNEAPOLIS – Jostens Inc. plans to close its Attleboro jewelry manufacturing plant in early February. About 177 full-time and seasonal workers will lose their jobs, the company said.
The company, best known for its high school and college rings and memorabilia, has also crafted championship rings for the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. (READ MORE) The company will continue to sell rings in the region.
Its Attleboro plant, which began jewelry production in 1962, makes mostly high school rings; that work will shift to Jostens’ operations in Denton, Texas. In a Dec. 4 statement, the company said it is consolidating its ring-making operations “to take advantage of scale, enhanced technologies and improve workflow efficiencies.”
In a telephone interview today, company spokesman Rich Stoebe told Providence Business News that he could not say how much the move might save Jostens. Some of the savings will go toward expanding the Denton operation, which now employs about 250 people.
The company owns both the 52,000-square-foot industrial facility in Attleboro and the 17 acres it sits on; Stoebe said Jostens will soon announce plans for property.

The Denton plant began operations in 1970 and has realized “significant quality and productivity gains over the past years, which now enable it to adapt to and accommodate the volume that would have otherwise been produced in Attleboro,” the company said.
