Elizabeth Catucci | Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce CEO and president
I have had the opportunity to work with many different types of leaders in various industries who have had a major impact on who I am today. Below are some of my top differentiators in exercising true leadership.
•
Know your “why”: Having clarity, discipline and consistency is essential. Realize you can’t do everything and always remain focused on your “why.” At the Chamber our “why” is to be the greatest business resource for our members.
•
Think in threes: Three is a magical number. Communicating using the rule of three allows you to express thoughts completely, emphasize points and increases the memorability of the message. The three pillars of the Chamber are advocacy, marketing and networking.
•
Empower your team: Celebrate their strengths and showcase their talents. Encourage self-improvement and accept ideas and input. Provide a safe environment to fail and never be stingy with your thank-you’s!
•
Find your devil’s advocate: It is important to be challenged. Not every idea is a good one. Find a person who does not always agree with you and allow them to find flaws in your thought process. Understanding different perspectives is key.
•
Pay it forward: Spread kindness. Set the tone and culture. Unexpected kindness can make a huge impact.
