MIDDLETOWN – Thrane & Thrane, a top satellite-equipment manufacturer, has named KVH Industries Inc. its top partner in the Americas for maritime satellite products.

Separately, KVH Industries Inc. announced the successful expansion of its mini-VSAT satellite broadband service to the Persian Gulf.
The mini-VSAT service makes broadband Internet and telephone service available to commercial oil and gas, shipping, and government vessels in the Persian Gulf. The service was extended to the Pacific Ocean earlier this year, as well. (READ MORE)
KVH and the service provider ViaSat are partnering in the service, which is compatible with KVH’s TracPhone V7 hardware and offers download speeds of up to 2 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 512 Kbps. They hope to have the mini-VSAT network available worldwide by the end of this year.
The two companies signed a 10-year agreement last year to create a worldwide mobile broadband network for aircraft and ships, with KVH selling to maritime customers and ViaSat selling to the aviation industry.
“The addition of mini-VSAT broadband coverage for the Persian Gulf enables us to provide more affordable broadband Internet for critical commercial and government maritime operations as well as leisure vessels in the region,” said Brent Bruun, KVH’s vice president of sales and business development, who stressed the service’s affordability.
