Lambert selected to lead RWU Justice System Training and Research Institute

BRISTOL – David E. Lambert has been named the director of the Justice System Training and Research Institute at Roger Williams University the school announced Wednesday.

Lambert, who comes to the school after a quarter century as an officer with the Massachusetts State Police and five years as an assistant professor in the criminal justice department at the University of New Haven, will serve as an assistant dean as well as the center’s director.

Robert W. McKenna, the most recent director of the Justice System Training and research Institute, departed the role Jan. 1 when he retired.

“As a retired Massachusetts State Police Officer, he brings practical expertise matched with exceptional academic credentials that will enhance the training offerings and maintain the Justice System Training and Research Institute as the premier training center throughout the Northeast,” said School of Justice Studies Dean Eric F. Bronson in prepared remarks. “The students at RWU will dramatically benefit from Dr. Lambert as he brings many years of academic experience.”

In a statement, Lambert said his goal is to “build the criminal justice problem solvers and change agents of the future.” He plans to do so through professional development programming for “first-line supervisor, mid-management and executive” positions.

In addition to 25 years with the Massachusetts State Police, Lambert served as the  special projects supervisor at the Commonwealth Fusion Center.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College, a master’s degree in criminology from Florida State University and a doctorate in law, policy, and society from Northeastern University.
