PROVIDENCE – The Providence Housing Authority has scheduled a series of community meetings for landlords in October, with the intention of dispelling misconceptions and providing information about Section 8.
The federal program provides vouchers locally to low- and moderate-income tenants, who can use them to secure apartments across the community.

In Providence, about 2,200 families or individuals have vouchers for housing, as well as 200 additional people who have a voucher intended to help veterans, according to Peter Asen, director of strategy and development for the Providence Housing Authority.
Some of the benefits of Section 8, according to the information provided by the authority: a built-in market of available tenants, online and electronic payment, and completed, prescreening of tenants.
The “Community Conversations Landlord Series” will begin Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. at West Broadway Middle School, 29 Brainbridge Ave.
Additional meetings are scheduled Oct. 17 at the Community Center, 500 Broad St.; Oct. 19 at Smith Hill Annex, 231 Douglas Ave.; and on Oct. 22 at Rochambeau Library, 708 Hope St.
