PROVIDENCE – Dana Holding Corp., a major automotive parts supplier, will use Providence-based Simulia’s virtual-testing software, Simulia SLM, parent company Dassault Systèmes S.A. said last week.
Simulia and Toledo, Ohio-based Dana (NYSE: DAN) signed an agreement that will allow Dana to use Simulia SLM – short for Simulation Lifecycle Management – “to capture and better leverage product-performance knowledge and engineering expertise created during the design simulation process,” Dassault said in a news release.

“Product development is becoming more complex. It involves not just system simulation requirements, but also the need to manage and share huge amounts of engineering information that is housed throughout the world,” Frank Popielas, advanced engineering manager for Dana’s sealing products group, said in a statement.
“Simulia SLM will provide us with consistency, accuracy and faster turnaround time through easier, coordinated information access,” he continued. “Not only is Simulia a proven leader in the [computer-aided engineering] market, they have a deep understanding of our engineering processes and workflows and share our vision for leveraging simulation knowledge as a valuable business asset.”
Dana Holding Corp., which exited bankruptcy protection last year, is a truck axle and frame maker. Its largest customers are Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Corp., according to Bloomberg News.
