Legislative grants assist adult day care facility

GREENVILLE – The Dora C. Howard Centre, an adult day care center in Greenville, has received two legislative grants totaling $20,000 to help fund part-time staff positions, educational materials and outreach efforts throughout the communities served by the center.
“As a nonprofit agency, we need to take an active role in reaching the at-risk elders in the northwestern region of the state and raise their awareness of the services we can provide them,” said director Lori Kirkwood.
Established in 1985, the Howard Centre offers adult day services including nursing care, assessment and monitoring, and various therapeutic activities. The center also provides support to family caregivers through one-on-one contact with professionals.
The center got a $10,000 grant from the R.I. House of Representatives and another $10,000 from the R.I. Senate.
