MIDDLETOWN – A Lifespan Urgent Care clinic opened in town last week, offering patients with minor illnesses or injuries a place to seek treatment on weekends, during the evenings on weekdays and on some holidays.

The center, on West Main Road, is Lifespan Corp.’s second Urgent Care clinic in Rhode Island. The health system’s first location is on Airport Road in Warwick.

Walk-ins are accepted or appointment times can be reserved online at either location for patients 18 months and older.

“We are a state-of-the-art facility with the ability to perform minor procedures and flat plate X-ray. Our well-trained medical staff believes strongly in the importance of working with fellow community health providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients,” said Bobby Hingorani, director of urgent care operations for Lifespan Physicians Group. “When necessary, our Middletown team can help refer patients within the broader health care system, including referrals to specialists and hospitals.”

The Urgent Care clinics broaden Lifespan’s network by allowing for the updating of patients’ medical records and making them available on the MyLifespan patient portal.

The centers offer sports physicals, as well as treatment for conditions including colds and flu, earaches, sinus infections, fractures and sprains, animal and insect bites, upset stomach and cuts.

“Urgent care is a safe and cost-effective alternative to the emergency department, as we are able to quickly take care of patients who have symptoms or concerns that come up suddenly and who are stable and not in a life-threatening situation,” said Dr. Olivier Gherardi, medical director and supervisor of Lifespan’s Urgent Care facilities. “Urgent care can also accommodate patients who do not have a primary care physician.”
