NEW BEDFORD – LifeStream Inc. announced last week that it plans to expand its 2-acre campus in New Bedford.
The nonprofit organization serving adults with physical and intellectual needs said it planned to physically connect its new Day Habilitation Center to its neighboring corporate headquarters. The center at 30 Nauset St. sits in a renovated building that once housed an automobile dealership. The organization moved into its headquarters at 444 Myrtle St. in 2001 and expects to obtain official ownership of the building in July.
“We are celebrating the opening of a new facility as well as sharing our plans for a LifeStream campus, but this ceremony stands as a symbol of a larger purpose and vision,” LifeStream President and CEO John A. Latawiec said. “It reiterates our continuing commitment to bring a variety of superior human services and programs to the people and families who need them in southeastern Massachusetts.”
The Day Habilitation Center is 5,000 square feet and will serve 35 adults, many of whom are relocating from a former LifeStream facility on Rogers Street in Dartmouth. Saltonstall Architects from Marion, Mass., and Bufftree Building Company from New Bedford designed and built the new center. The newly renovated building is one of three LifeStream facilities.
