PROVIDENCE – Two Providence-based institutions – the Alliance of Artists Communities and Providence College Galleries – were among the 42 most recent recipients of Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts grants.

Based in Providence, the Alliance of Artists Communities is a nationwide group which organizes artist residences, conferences, workshops and professional develop opportunities among other services. The group was awarded a two-year $120,000 grant to support a program to increase the number of people of color and people with disabilities both leading and participating in artist residency settings.

Located within Providence College’s Hunt-Cavanagh Hall, the PCG received a $65,000 grant from the foundation to help fund Beyond Bauhaus – a year-long exhibit launching in spring 2019.

“With this support, we are poised to continue collaborating with artists and scholars on groundbreaking artistic ideas, interdisciplinary presentations and cultivating creative production from diverse perspectives,” said Jamilee Lacy, curator of the PCG, in a statement.

PC’s Dean of Arts and Sciences Sheila Adamus Liotta, in prepared remarks, called the grant a “prestigious award [which] manifests the vital role the arts play on our campus.”

The exhibit will take place on the school’s campus from April 1, 2019 through Aug. 1, 2020.

This spring, the New York City-based foundation awarded more than $3.5 million in grants to 42 organizations in support of scholarly exhibitions, events, publications and experimental programming.
