Local hospitals receive high-performance ratings from U.S. News

PROVIDENCE – U.S. News and World Report released its Best Hospitals rankings last week, with three hospitals in the region assigned specific ranks. In addition to that list, U.S. News also recognized six hospitals as “high performing” for treatment of specific conditions and for certain procedures.

The Miriam Hospital, which ranked No. 1 overall in the Providence metro area, achieved high-performing status in four conditions and procedures:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Colon cancer surgery
  • Heart failure
  • Hip replacement

Rhode Island Hospital, which ranked No. 2 (tied with Southcoast Charlton Memorial Hospital) in the metro area, achieved high-performing rating for three conditions and procedures:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Heart failure
  • Hip replacement

Southcoast Charlton Memorial Hospital, which ranked No. 2 (tied with Rhode Island Hospital) in the metro area, achieved high performing in three conditions and procedures:

  • Heart failure

The following hospitals were awarded high performing in conditions or procedures but were not ranked regionally as a Best Hospital in 2017.

Newport Hospital was awarded two high performance grades for:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
  • Heart failure

Kent County Memorial Hospital was awarded one high performance rating for heart failure.

South County Hospital was awarded a high performance rating for knee replacement, the only hospital to do so in the state.
