PROVIDENCE – Associate Justice Joseph A. Montalbano, a former state Senate president, has been appointed presiding justice of the R.I. Superior Court, Gov. Daniel J. McKee announced Thursday. If approved by the Senate, Justice Montalbano will fill the vacancy left by Alice B. Gibney, who retired in October after 44 years on the bench.
