Md. firm to map R.I. ?broadband availability

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Economic Development Corporation has tapped EA Engineering, Science, and Technology Inc., of Hunt Valley, Md., to help it gather and verify information on the availability of broadband in Rhode Island.
The company has a number of offices nationwide, including one in Warwick. It won the $551,384 contract, funded by the federal government, in a competitive bidding process run by the EDC that drew 11 proposals.
EA will be responsible for making sure that all public and private broadband provider facilities in Rhode Island are reported and accurately described for inclusion on the national broadband map being developed by the U.S. Commerce Department.
The contract is being paid for by a $1.5 million stimulus grant the EDC received from the federal government in December. &#8226
