EAST PROVIDENCE – Metacomet Country Club is on the market, listed for $3.5 million, according to a brokerage based in Tampa, Fla., that specializes in golf resorts, planned communities and marinas.
The 105-acre golf course opened in 1926 in its current location, with a view of Narragansett Bay. It initially was founded in another location in East Providence. It features a classic parkland layout, designed by Donald Ross, who also designed several other golf course and country clubs in Rhode Island.
The listing is held by the Leisure Investment Properties Group of Marcus & Millichap Real Estate Investment Services, of Tampa. Rob Waldron is the lead investment adviser.
In a news release, Waldron said the 18-hole private, member-owned club is seeking investment for a rejuvenation of the facilities. The site is not being marketed for redevelopment into other uses, such as mixed-use or residential, he said.
The country club includes a nearly 22,000-square-foot clubhouse with a 200-seat banquet room, grill and dining room.
It is located adjacent to a redevelopment area off Veterans Memorial Parkway that will become a residential and commercial mixed-use district on the waterfront. Another redevelopment nearby is nearing completion.
