UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Mohegan Sun broke ground this week for the final phase of its $740 million Project Horizon expansion project, in which the resort casino’s 240-acre campus will gain 922 hotel rooms and a House of Blues Music Hall.
Bruce “Two Dogs” Bozsom, chairman of the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut; Mitchell Etess, president and CEO of the Mohegan Sun; Jeffrey Hartmann, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Mohegan Sun, were among the tribal and casino officials on hand for the Wednesday event.
Joining them on the roof of the Winter Garage, overlooking the construction site, were special guests Dan Aykroyd, a House of Blues co-founder; David Mexico, of the New York-based Rockwell Group; House of Blues President Debbie Eybers, Chief Operating Officer Jim Jablonski and Senior Vice President Aidan Scully; and Jim Koplik, Live Nation’s chairman for the Northeast Region.
The 19,400-square-foot House of Blues Music Hall will include a 300-seat restaurant, while the hotel addition – the 39-story Earth Tower – will include a luxury Foundation Room, for House of Blues members only; 261 House-of-Blues themed guest rooms; and a 20,000-square-foot spa. Project Horizon’s final phase also will a retail outlet, a special events room, the Foundation Room and the Spirit of the Sea and Spirit of the Earth Corridors.
Construction is expected to be completed during late 2010.
