2. Development of East Providence marine terminal gains $15M in Rebuild RI incentives POSTED ONLINE: JULY 17
A waterfront area called the South Quay Marine Terminal will be redeveloped to support offshore wind developments, using up to $15 million in state incentives. The Rebuild Rhode Island tax credits authorized on July 16 will enable the $103 million in improvements to move forward. The project, put forth by property owner RI Waterfront Enterprises LLC, will involve construction of a 1,020-foot linear bulkhead and two deep-water berths, according to the R.I. 4. Elorza announces racial reparations plan for Providence POSTED ONLINE: JULY 15
Mayor Jorge O. Elorza signed an executive order on July 15 committing the city to a racial reparations plan, though specific details on what such reparations entail have not been finalized. The mayor said the three-part process, which includes “truth-telling” or historical education, reconciliation and reparations, is aimed specifically at recognizing and remedying the inequality experienced by people of African and Indigenous heritage. rb.gy/jahwop
5. SBA identifies companies approved for largest PPP loans POSTED ONLINE: JULY 6
Roughly 2,400 Rhode Island businesses received at least $150,000 in forgivable payroll loans, with 14 companies approved for upward of $5 million, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration. The SBA released information on July 6, including company names and the race and gender of owners, for all businesses that received $150,000 or more through the Paycheck Protection Program.
