Movie filmed at URI’s Alton Jones campus
released on DVD

KINGSTON, R.I. (March 1, 2007) – Hard Luck, a movie filmed in 2005 at the University of Rhode Island’s W. Alton Jones campus, was recently released on DVD. The movie intertwines stories involving a drug dealer trying to go straight, and a housewife trying to hide a sadistic secret.
Wesley Snipes, Cybill Shepard, and Mario Van Peebles star in the thriller that was filmed almost entirely in Rhode Island, with four days of filming taking place at the Alton Jones campus in West Greenwich. Van Peebles, who also wrote, produced, and directed the movie, said they chose to shoot in Rhode Island because of the recent tax credit for filmmakers. He said that the state?s diverse people and culture and proximity to New York attributed to their choice as well.
“Anyone who is familiar with Rhode Island will enjoy watching the movie. I was pleased to see that Alton Jones had a leading role,” said Thomas H. Mitchell, director of URI’s Alton Jones campus. The 2,300-acre campus is being kept in mind for future movie projects.
