National Grid offering gas efficiency program

WESTBOROUGH, MASS. – National Grid’s Rhode Island natural gas customers now have energy efficiency programs similar to those that the utility7 has had in place for its electricity customers for more than two decades.
“In the past 10 years alone, these programs have saved Rhode Island [electricity customers] more than $53 million annually and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than 250,500 tons,” said Michael F. Ryan, president of Rhode Island Distribution for National Grid.
Similar gas efficiency programs in place already in other New England states have saved customers up to 30 percent on their monthly gas bills, according to the company.
Residential customers and apartment complex owners will be able to take advantage of the following programs, which will be administered by GasNetworks, a collaborative of natural gas distribution companies in New England:
• Rebates of $25 to $800 for purchasing Energy Star thermostats, natural gas heating systems and hot water heating equipment.
• Incentives for installing insulation, air filtration and sealing, hot water savings measures, and ductwork leakage testing and sealing programs that range from $25 to $800.
• Free energy audits that include efficiency recommendations.
• Weatherization services for those qualified for the Residential Low Income Program.
Commercial and industrial customers will deal directly with National Grid for the following:
• Energy audits and engineering services.
• Incentives of up to $150,000 for the installation of energy efficient natural gas equipment.
The efficiency program was created by the Comprehensive Energy Conservation, Efficiency and Affordability Act of 2006, passed by the General Assembly and approved this spring by the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commision.

National Grid serves more than 4 million natural gas and electricity customers across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island. For more information, go to www.nationalgridus.com.
