National Science Foundation program
for tech startups begins June 5 at URI

SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A National Science Foundation program offered by NE I-Corps, URI Ventures, formerly known as the University of Rhode Island Research Foundation, and Venture Mentoring Service of Rhode Island is aimed at helping entrepreneurs explore applications that their technologies may hold.

Called NE I-Corps @ Rhode Island, the free, three-week training program offers up to $1,500 to give entrepreneurs insight into potential new customer markets, their value propositions and details on how to apply for NSF funding of up to $50,000, part of the foundation’s effort to get more science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM-related, innovation to market, the foundation said.

The initiative begins with a workshop from 5-8 p.m. on June 5 at the URI Kingston campus in South Kingstown.

Entrepreneurial teams in the program will interview potential customers and receive coaching. Final presentations will be given on June 26 from 5-8 p.m., along with information on the $1,500 micro-grant for additional customer discovery, according to the program.
