NEIT to begin program in veterinary technology

EAST GREENWICH – The New England Institute of Technology will begin the state’s first certified veterinary-technology program in January, Thomas F. Wylie, senior vice president and provost of the school, recently announced.
Darlene Jones, a University of Rhode Island professor of animal science and a Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association member, worked with faculty and administration at New England Tech to develop the program, which will prepare students as entry-level veterinary technicians with associate in science degrees.
The curriculum follows the accreditation guidelines set by the American Veterinary Medical Association. At least 240 hours of clinical experience at an off-campus veterinary facility will be required. The program can be completed in as little as 18 months if students “plan carefully,” Wylie said. &#8226
