The Residence Inn by Marriott | Fountain Street, Providence
Work continues to progress on the new 19,380-square-foot hotel, being built on the site of the former John E. Fogarty Memorial Building, which was demolished in 2017, about 10 years after Procaccianti Cos. purchased the half-acre property. Construction began on the nine-story hotel, costing $40 million overall, in May. It is projected to open by the spring of 2019. The hotel, next door to the R.I. Convention Center and Dunkin’ Donuts Center, will include 176 rooms, a fitness center, small meeting rooms, Wi-Fi areas, a lobby, and provide off-street parking for guests and hotel staff. It will also include an attached, single-story retail space for restaurant use. The construction team working on the project includes AVID Engineers of Boston, DiPrete Engineering of Cranston, Gilbane Building Co. of Providence and Vision 3 Architects of Providence.

Jonathan M. Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship | 249 Thayer St., Providence
Steel framing and the walls on the new 10,000-square-foot, four-story building located near the center of Brown University’s campus are close to being fully built. Being constructed on land where a small retail building once stood, ground broke on the project in January with the site preparation, shoring and excavation. The foundations and footings were installed in mid-March. The project is expected to be completed by spring of 2019. Brown will lease space in the building’s top three floors from Capstone Properties and the Discovery Group, the building’s co-owners and developers, to be occupied by the Nelson Center – currently located in the Brown-Rhode Island School of Design Hillel building – upon completion. The building’s lower floor will be retail space. Once completed, the new building will provide space for teams working on new ventures to collaborate and for groups to work on other initiatives. The structure’s interior design will have moveable panels that can be arranged into different spaces, from smaller office rooms to spacious areas for events. Providence-based 3SIX0 Architecture is the project’s architect.

North Providence Public Safety Complex | 1835 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence
This 59,000-square-foot public-safety facility, which will replace three different buildings across town, is starting to take shape. The site clearing on the 8-acre parcel began in November 2017 and concluded in May. Building construction started soon after, and the building is expected to be finished by either late summer or early fall in 2019. North Providence Police Chief David P. Tikoian said the new facility will have an emergency operations center and police and fire dispatch, which are currently separate from one another. Being next to each other will allow both departments the opportunity to cross-train dispatchers in the event of an emergency-staff shortage. Along with having a community room, the new facility will also be the new home of the town’s municipal court operations. Municipal court is currently held at Town Hall at 2000 Smith St. The project, including the site work, will cost approximately $28 million. Ahlborg Construction Co. of Warwick is the project’s general contractor and RGB Inc. of Providence is the architect. Tikoian said the current public-safety facility building and parcel will be put on the market by the town.
