New England Tech offers e-health records training

WARWICK – New England Institute of Technology is offering the first industry customized electronic health records training program in the region.
The work force training program, developed in partnership with Quality Partners of Rhode Island, is being underwritten with a $2.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Open to administrators, physicians, nurses, nursing support staff, and office managers of long term care facilities and physician offices, the new program will train individuals in required skills now mandated for the healthcare industry to become proficient in Electronic Health Records standards by 2015.
The program has three tiers, based on the skill levels of participants. It will prepare participants to sit for the Certified Professionals in Electronic Health Records national accrediting exam, to be administered at the school.
The first class, “Introduction to Electronic Health Records,” began on March 3.
“We are excited to join with Quality Partners of Rhode Island to provide high quality training for a new area of technology in the healthcare industry,” said Steve H. Kitchin, vice president of Corporate Education and Training. “It will provide free training to qualified applicants. One of the grant’s goals is to train a minimum of 180 participants and so far, the response has been extremely positive.”
