MIDDLETOWN – Newport Vineyards and the Nunes family announced Tuesday it will extend its 23-year winemaking services into the opening of a new brewery June 20.
Taproot Brewing Co., which is in the main entrance of the winery, features a seven-barrel brewhouse and an in-house canning system. Taproot beer will be served at the vineyard’s Brix Restaurant, and will be available to all winery guests.

Learn More“We are working with some of our farm partners to donate the spent grain from the brewery for compost and feed,” vineyard executive chef Andy Teixeira said.
In addition to the pre-existing wine pairing options, the updated lunch menu will feature Taproot beer pairings.
“I’ve been making beer longer than I’ve been making wine,” Newport Vineyards owner John Nunes said. “Over the last few years, Newport Vineyards has transformed into a beverage, culinary and events destination; adding craft beer was a natural fit.”
The Taproot Grand Opening Party will take place from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20.
