Nominees sought for Pell Awards in the arts

The Trinity Repertory Company and the Rhode Island Pell Awards Selection Committee are inviting the public to nominate outstanding local artists for the 2007 Rhode Island Pell Awards for Excellence in the Arts.

The awards honor former U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell, who has worked throughout his life to support the arts and sponsored the legislation that established the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities in 1965.

An independent committee reviews nominations and selects the award recipients each year, looking for artists with a presence in Rhode Island who have advanced their art form and are acknowledged for achieving excellence in their field.

Nomination forms are available online at or by calling (401) 521-1100, x237. The deadline is Feb. 15.
