North Kingstown physical therapy practice acquired by Confluent Health

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Premier Orthopedics & Work Rehabilitation, a private, therapist-owned physical therapy practice at 650 Ten Road, was recently acquired by Confluent Health LLC of Louisville, Ky.

The acquisition forms a partnership between Premier and Pappas | OPT Physical Therapy, which is part of Confluent. Pappas currently has 17 Rhode Island locations listed on its website.

“We are excited to welcome [Premier] into the Pappas | OPT family,” said Mike Pappas, CEO of Pappas | OPT. “Since opening our doors, our vision has been to provide the highest level of service to our patients and referring physicians throughout all of our clinics and across the state. … This partnership will allow us to continue this vision and reach more residents than before.”

The clinical team at Premier Orthopedics, which has four employees, will now have greater access to Evidence In Motion, a nationally recognized physical therapy education company, and Fit for Work, the leading provider of employee safety, according to a news release.

“We have worked hard to grow Premier Orthopedics & Work Rehabilitation and have been in search of a reputable business partner that can help us continue along this growth trajectory,” said Premier Orthopedics Clinic Director/Partner Kristen Baxter. “Pappas | OPT is an established practice with a reputation for superior customer service and quality care. We can’t wait to see what this partnership will bring.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Premier was one of three practices Confluent acquired in March. The other two are Physical Therapy Specialists of Beverly Hills, Calif., and IncreMedical Therapy Solutions, a practice with locations in Indiana, Georgia and Wyoming.

The recent growth brings Confluent’s portfolio to 44 partner companies with 514 clinic locations across 28 states.

Confluent CEO Dr. Larry Benz refers to company acquisitions as “partnerships” because the acquired physical therapy practice maintains its name and a share of ownership, the release stated. Confluent provides back-office services for physical therapy offices, including finance, compliance, payroll and the like.
