N.Y. AG investigating Brown study program

NEW YORK – A study-aboard program at Brown University is one of 15 such programs at various colleges and universities being examined by the New York attorney general’s office to determine whether the arrangements treat students fairly, according to various news reports.
Investigators in New York have turned their attention to the schools after an investigation into companies worldwide identified questionable practices in the arrangements between some schools and the providers.
The civil investigation is also focused on creating a code of conduct to prevent abuse that costs students money.
Other schools included in the investigation are Harvard University, Columbia University, Northwestern University, American University, Brandeis University, Fordham University, Alfred State College, Alfred University, Manhattanville College, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Pace University, Cornell University, Siena College and the College of New Rochelle.
