PROVIDENCE – PACE Organization of Rhode Island’s art and music programs are poised for a makeover as the nonprofit prepares to move into its new East Providence headquarters this spring.

PACE-RI, a health plan for older people with complex medical needs, plans to move into the new $3.8 million building in June 2021 after completing about $4 million in renovations.
John Robinson, the organization’s new life enrichment coordinator, says he is looking forward to using the room for in-person gatherings once it’s safe to do so.
Art and music therapy can help supplement physical therapy and ease isolation, loneliness, or depression that many seniors experience, he added.
“It doesn’t have to be complicated,” said Robinson, who has a master’s degree in music therapy from the University of Kansas. “At the moment, we do Zumba-style classes virtually, but hopefully we will be able to have them in person again soon. I expect to enable participants to engage in music the way they used to – in a rock band, choir, or orchestra for instance. That could mean putting on community concerts or hosting an art gallery with live music by participants.”
