The Pawtucket Credit Union recently purchased autographed copies of author Diane Kozak’s first novel for San Miguel School sixth grade students to coincide with her visit to the school.
Kozak, author of the novels “Full Circle 911” and “Exposing Eurabia,” met with teacher Sarah Laitinen’s students at the Providence school to discuss the importance of reading.
“I encourage them to read by explaining how it gives them knowledge, develops their imaginations, improves their vocabulary and writing skills and also trains them to keep their minds focused on what they’re doing,” said Kozak.
Kozak is the former president and CEO of Taunton Federal Credit Union, and a volunteer speaker at public schools and youth organizations throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
“In today’s world of technology and the social networking that it makes available to today’s youth, students aren’t reading as much as they should be. This has had an impact on their education as can be evidenced in testing scores across the country,” said Kozak. “The San Miguel School is doing a fantastic job with encouraging their students to read. My visit with their sixth graders was just another way for the school to keep their students on the path to success.” •
