The Washington Trust Co.’s seventh annual “PB Xpress” peanut butter drive brought in a record 23,473 pounds of peanut butter – nearly 12 tons – to help those served by the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Since the program began in 2001, the bank has collected 44 tons of peanut butter; this year’s drive broke last year’s record of 11 tons.
Washington Trust collected peanut butter throughout the month of March at each of the bank’s 16 branches. Bank employees, customers and more than 50 schools and businesses participated in the drive.
“After a difficult winter for thousands of families, the incredible amount of peanut butter collected through Washington Trust’s seventh annual PB Xpress Drive will help us provide a source of much-needed protein for so many in our state,” said Rosie Connors, senior director of development and communications for the food bank.
Elizabeth B. Eckel, senior vice president of marketing for Washington Trust, said the bank is grateful to the local community and schools for contributing to the drive.
