People’s courting customers

MIDDLETOWN – When People’s Credit Union officials heard that major banking institutions would soon start charging customers a monthly fee to make debit card purchases, it began a campaign to woo those customers to the credit union.
The Bank Transfer Day campaign, that runs through Nov. 5, includes a kit to help make the transition from a bank to the credit union. People’s will increase staff at its six locations in anticipation of a surge of customers.
“We have made switching to People’s as easy as possible for our new members,” Nancy Quick, People’s vice president of sales and services, said in a news release. “We have already seen many consumers switching, and we expect even more before the conclusion of the campaign on Nov. 5.”
People’s Credit Union serves members through six locations in Bristol, Middletown, Newport, North Kingstown, Portsmouth and Wakefield.
