People’s Credit Union gets five stars

MIDDLETOWN – A bank and credit union research firm has awarded Middletown-based People’s Credit Union five stars based on its capital ratios, delinquent loan level and profitability, among other factors.
BauerFinancial Inc. now has given the $379.67 million credit union its 5-Star Superior rating for 76 consecutive quarters, a feat only 8 percent of U.S. credit unions can claim, People’s said.
“The staff and management of People’s Credit Union should be very proud to work for such a strong credit union,” Karen L. Dorway, BauerFinancial’s president. “Often the general public does not know the financial strengths and weaknesses of their financial institution. BauerFinancial’s ratings help to assure members and the rest of the community that they are dealing with a strong financial institution that will be able to fulfill their banking needs for years to come.”
People’s Credit Union, established in 1922, serves 29,400 members in Bristol, Middletown, Newport, North Kingstown, Portsmouth and Wakefield.
No institution pays Coral Gables, Fla.-based BauerFinancial to rate it, and banks and credit unions cannot choose to be excluded. Consumers may obtain star-ratings by visiting www.bauerfinancial.com.
