Plan covers immigrants dropped from Mass. rolls

BOSTON – The 31,000 legal immigrants in Massachusetts who had been slated to lose their health care coverage on Oct. 1 due to budget cuts will get benefits after all, but because of a three-month phase-in, some won’t be enrolled in the new program until Dec. 1.
CeltiCare Health Plan of Massachusetts will now cover that population, which is being dropped from Commonwealth Care. The plan will be supported with $40 million in state funds and offer “virtually full coverage,” officials said.
During the coverage gap, immigrants will have access to the state Health Safety Net and to MassHealth Limited. &#8226
