Plan looks to boost Mass. tech schools

BOSTON – Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Murray last week announced a new leadership model designed to advance and expand access to vocational-technical education programs across Massachusetts.
According to a news release, the leadership model will expand partnerships between educators and employers and looks to increase collaboration among state agencies in hopes of expanding the use of vocational-technical schools.
The Mass. Department of Elementary and Secondary Education will also hire an associate commissioner for vocational, work force and college-readiness programs to head the initiative. The full-time, senior-level position will provide a direct contact to vocational and technical school administrators, teachers and schools.
The new model will build on the administration’s education-reform efforts to ensure students have access to the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the work force. &#8226
