NEWPORT – The Preservation Society of Newport County’s annual costume exhibit at Rosecliff this year will highlight 20th century fashion and the ways in which designers marketed the changing styles and silhouettes.
There will be 11 dresses on exhibit from Chanel, Givency, and Halston, among other designers including a 1925 evening gown by Callot Soeurs of Paris.
The exhibit will highlight the girdles and bras that flattened figures in the 1920s, the defined waists and fuller skirts of the late 1930s to mid-1940s, and other decade-defining styles including a 1965 red skirt suit by Chanel and a 1985 cotton organdy pant suit with glass beads by Halston.
The exhibit is on display in the Lesley Bogert Crawford costume galleries on the 2nd floor of Rosecliff through Nov. 22. Admission is included with any Rosecliff tour ticket, including multihouse tickets.
