Princeton faces U.S. bias investigation

Princeton University is facing an expanded investigation by the U.S. Education Department into whether the school’s admission criteria discriminated against Asian students.
The civil rights probe, which began with a China-born applicant’s 2006 complaint that he was rejectedOverline = Focus by the Ivy League institution because of his race and national origin, was expanded in January to include all students admitted in 2006, the Princeton, N.J., school said in a statement June 10.
“Princeton does not discriminate on the basis of race, color or national origin, and our admission policy is in full compliance” with civil rights laws, Princeton spokeswoman Cass Cliatt said.
The applicant who made the complaint is now a student at Yale University in New Haven, Conn., according to Princeton. He also was rejected by Harvard University, Stanford University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton said. &#8226
