ProvGeeks to spotlight GyPSii ‘mobile lifestyle’ tech

PROVIDENCE – This month, the Providence Geeks will host representatives from GyPSii, an Amsterdam-based company with operations in Warwick that has created an interface that brings social networking and location-based services to the cell phone.

The March dinner meeting – slated for Wednesday, March 19, at AS220, 115 Empire St. – will feature a demonstration of the software, created by Rhode Island native Dan Harple and Sam Critchley. Presenting will be GyPSii’s Shane Lennon, senior vice president of strategy and marketing, Norm Olean, director of product marketing, and Vikas Singh, director of software development.

“GyPSii brings to the consumer a mobile lifestyle application, rich in services, features, and capabilities,” Lennon wrote in a recent posting to the R.I. Economic Development Corporation’s R.I. Nexus.
“It fuses all of the phone’s components – like the camera, location technologies, text, e-mail, etc. – into one easy-to-use interface. It turns the user’s mobile phone into [his or her] own ‘personal digital life recorder.’
“We look forward to showcasing GyPSii at this month’s Providence Geeks Dinner, sharing our experiences and meeting all of you.”
The event is free and open to the public. For additional information, or to RSVP, visit tinyurl.com/27e8uz. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at Taqueria Pacifica. Wi-Fi service will also be available.

The goal of Providence Geeks is to help Rhode Island’s digital innovators connect and collaborate – and, ultimately, to help the city-state and its geeks to become information technology leaders. For more information, visit www.providencegeeks.org.
