PROVIDENCE – Providence College celebrated the installation of the highest structural steel beam for its Science Complex on Aug. 22.

The project, which began in June 2016, will take nearly four years to complete. It is expected to be available for use, however, in September 2018, according to the university.

The building is designed to modernize the college’s Science Complex and unite its three buildings. Albertus Magnus Hall opened in 1948 as the third building on campus. Hickey Hall, a laboratory building, opened in 1962. Sowa Hall, a faculty office building, opened in 1989.

The new science building is being constructed by Bond Brothers.

It includes a 37,000-square-foot addition that will serve as the new main entrance. The completed complex will include 61,885 square feet of modern laboratory space, three new classrooms, a rooftop observatory and a microscopy unit.
