PROVIDENCE – The city has extended the homestead recertification application deadline until Feb. 21, 2021, to accommodate residents who may receive their mail notifications later than expected.

The city typically gives residents until Jan. 15 to complete the application.

The homestead exemption provides residential owners with a 40% reduction on their annual property tax. The residents who claim the exemption are required to show proof of residency and identification to qualify for the tax break. It will be applied to their July 2021 tax bill.

A streamlined application is available online or at City Hall in the assessor’s office.
