PROVIDENCE – The Providence Flea has found a new home just across the Providence River. Since December, the Providence Flea’s future location has been uncertain after the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission selected Riverside Partners LLC to develop the parcel the flea has called home since 2013. The decision is not exactly what the Providence Flea and its supporters were hoping for as the organization had also submitted a bid to keep its long-held residency along the eastern bank of the Providence River. But the commission's resolution included language allowing the Providence Flea to relocate its outdoor operations to the 195 District Park on the other side of the river. In the days following the decision Maria Tocco, owner and market manager of Providence Flea, told PBN she planned on considering the offer, but was not ruling out any potential locations. On Tuesday the I-195 district announced it had reached an agreement with the Providence Flea to relocate its outdoor operations to the District Park for the 2024 season. "We're thrilled to return outdoors to 195 District Park every Sunday this summer, just a short walk over the pedestrian bridge from our location in previous years," Tocco said. "With its open green space, wide walkways and riverfront views, District Park offers our shoppers, visitors and tourists a new and exciting way to experience our award-winning community market. Best of all, we'll welcome back all of the area's most talented artists, indie makers, creators, collectors and food purveyors who have made the Flea such an important part of the community's summer life in the city." The Providence Flea’s summer opening day is June 2 and the market will continue to run every Sunday through Sept. 15 on the west side of District Park at 120 Peck St. in Providence. “We have enjoyed a good partnership with the Providence Flea and we’re looking forward to having the Flea in 195 District Park,” said commission chairman Marc Crisafulli. “The Flea will be a great addition to the growing calendar of events in 195 District Park throughout 2024.” The Providence Flea is also held indoors from mid-fall through winter and spring on Sundays at Farm Fresh RI at 10 Sims Ave. in Providence.
