PROVIDENCE – The foreclosure rate in the Providence-Fall River-New Bedford metropolitan area rose .17 percentage points in August compared with the same period last year, CoreLogic said Thursday.
The percentage of residential properties going through some part of the foreclosure process in August was 2.89 percent, up from 2.72 percent in August 2010, the California-based real estate tracking firm said.

The foreclosure rate for Rhode Island rose .34 percentage points in August to 3.17 percent compared with 2.83 percent the same month a year earlier.
Both the Providence metropolitan area rate and the Rhode Island rate remained below the national foreclosure rate of 3.43 percent in August.
