PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular, unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 3 cents in the last week to $3.41 per gallon, 1 cent below the national average of $3.42 per gallon, AAA Northeast said Monday.
The average price of regular gas in the state was $2.09 per gallon a year ago.

“Many people mourn the end of Daylight Saving Time,” said Lloyd Albert, senior vice president of public and government affairs for AAA Northeast. “But when darkness falls earlier, demand for gasoline often drops as well because people tend to head straight home from work rather than go out in the evening. And that falling demand often puts downward pressure on prices at the pump.”

In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas increased 2 cents week to week to $3.40 per gallon, a rise of $1.33 year over year.
